The Lionel tank train tank cars all feature many separately applied metal details and flexible hoses between. Designed in the late 1970s, tank train system provided a faster, more economical way to load and unload unit trains of tank cars. Durable painted body metal brake wheelie-cast sprung trucks.

The gatx tank train 3-pack includes one a-end car, intermediate car and b-end with a flashing end-of-train-device. Rather than unload each car individually, a crew could the entire string from one end of train.
