K Line built these cabooses before command control and did not intend them to be run on the constant 18v that is used on command control layouts. If you use the smoking caboose on a DMCA or DC's layout with a constant 18v on the track keep the smoke turned off till you install a voltage regulator.

Unlike the Lionel n5c caboose this model is full size o scale with add on wire hand rails. Test run for only a few minutes looks like new. There are voltage regulators that can be bought on for under 2 that will solve this problem.
